I drew this view of the diner from a parking lot across the street in the daytime, on a very windy day. I took photos at night and worked from my drawing and the photos to paint it back at my house. Later when I showed it to the owner of the diner she said that she remembered seeing me drawing a month earlier - struggling with my paper blowing all over the place. Right! It took several days to paint this, carefully doing the details of the light areas and finally adding layer upon layer of vibrant dark colors until it looked like night. This piece was juried into a regional open show of the New England Watercolor Society held in Chatham in 2000.
