Artwork by Ginger Greenblatt
Whitman St
1997
I drew the sketch for this piece in the fall because I loved the design of the starways going up to the front doors on this street. I didn't get around to painting it right away and went back months later to take photos in a snowstorm, which I then used as reference for the painting. I first painted streaks of light blue all over the paper to suggest the direction of the snowfall. Next I painted a "resist" medium on top of that in hundreds of small slanted streaks for the falling snowflakes. Then I painted the picture. Finally the "resist" was removed with an eraser leaving the pale streaks of falling snow...quite a project. This piece was shown at a New England Watercolor Society member's show held at the Guild of Boston Artists in 2003.
