Prospect Hill Monument Somerville, MA
2010
I painted this on site looking up at that tower. It is reported to be the site of George Washington's 1st raising of the American flag. I guess this is debatable... but at any rate the hill was an historic encampment in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The hill overlooks Union Square and has a view of the Boston Skyline. the monument is something of an odd shape and I don't know why. People gather there to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July. It seems as though that should work but it's not really a very good view.
